Continuous flocculant for crystal clear sparkling water
Traditional swimming pool flocculants (containing aluminium and iron compounds) were developed for flocculating polluted waste water. Super Cubes are developed especially for flocculation of micron seized particles. These gel cubes consist of a combination made from cationic and anionic polymers products. They do not contain any copper or other metals. All components of the Super Cubes have the A.W.W.A-authorization (American Water Works Association) for drinking water applications! With the Super Cubes even sub-micron particles are actively bound and removed from the water. The result: crystal clear and sparkling water!
Try this product yourself in a swimming pool with built-in spotlights. With the use of conventional flocculants suspended particles usually can still be seen in the area of the spotlights at night (Tyndall effect). This cloudiness will disappear completely when using Super Cubes! Less suspended solid particles in your pool water will also reduce the consumption of disinfectants.
Super Cubes can be used in a wide pH range. Depending on the scheduled filter time, pump pressure and water temperature, Super Cubes will dissolve in the skimmer basket within 2 to 4 weeks. After the gel cube is dissolved, the effect in the hydrological cycle continues on for another 4 weeks. One Gel Cube is enough for the continuous flocculation of 50 m³ water over a period of 6 to 8 weeks.

Tip: Use small laundry nets. It holds the Gel Cube together and avoids dirt agglutinate in the non-dissolved gel.
New recipe for Melpool 90 MF/200
Slowly dissolving multifunctional chlorine tablet
For this pool season Melpool introduced a new copper free multifunctional chlorine tablet to its product range. Anticipating the new European biocide regulations (BPR) the recipe was changed without influencing it’s functionality. Melpool MF/ 200 tablets still contain a 90 % chlorine level
• Continuous disinfection
• Effective algaecide
• Continuous flocculant (clarifier)
• Stabilises water balance and chlorine level
Dosage: ca. 1 tablet (200 gram) per week for 30 m³ water
Active ingredient: Trichlor-ISO-Cyanuric acid with 90% chlorine
Packaging: 1kg, 5kg, 10kg and 50 kg bulk package. Tablets are individually wrapped
We advise to use Melpool 90 MF/200 tablets in combination with Melpool 55/G, Melpool 63/G chlor-shock products. Fast dissolving chlorine should be used after refilling the pool or when a chlorine shock is required, in order to raise the active chlorine level instantly.
Calcium Hypochlorite vs. Natrium Hypochlorite
In recent years the subject of chlorides has moved up higher on the agenda. In many countries the legislation for maximum chlorate-levels has tightened and other countries will face new stricter levels very soon.
Maximum chlorate levels:
Germany: ≤ 30 mg / l
Switzerland: ≤ 10 mg / l
Netherlands: none. Expected critical level: ≤ 30 mg / l
WHO drinking water: critical level ≤ 0, 7 mg / l
High chlorate levels seem to be a serious health issue, especially for children. Chlorates avoid the absorption of iodine by the human body. Additionally chlorates blocks the intake of oxygen, both for children as well as for adults¹.
Source of chlorates
Chlorates found in swimming pool water are mainly formed by over-aged hypochlorite. Many public pools are using Natrium Hypochlorite for sanitizing their pool water. In case the Natrium Hypochlorite is over-aged or contaminated it quickly forms harmful chlorates. These chlorates can also build up in salt electrolysis systems.
When chlorate levels become critical, swimming pools are forced to take expensive measures.
• Exchange a large volume of pool water with fresh water to reduce chlorate levels
• Clean the Natrium Hypochlorite tanks (often the source of chlorate)
• Thorough cleaning of the salt electrolysis-system
• Reducing stock and order quantities of Natrium Hypochlorite (increase transport frequencies)
• Install storage cooling for Natrium Hypochlorite tank
Important: Always store Natrium Hypochlorite in a cool, dark and dry room!
Prevent chlorate problems by using Calcium Hypochlorite
Extensive research reports from Germany and Switzerland show that problems with chlorates do not occur with all chlorine-disinfection-systems. Disinfection-systems using Calcium Hypochlorite do not have problems operating within critical chlorate levels. On short term, legislation on chlorate levels is expected to be tightened even further. Using Natrium Hypochlorite systems can cause serious operational risks, as new chlorite standards become difficult to fulfil. In countries like Germany and Switzerland, with updated regulation on chlorates, Calcium Hypochlorite is clearly gaining ground.

Melpool: 80 years of experience in water treatment
The heritage timeline traces our story from 1936, when the foundation for Melspring was created.
In the early days the company focused on the import and export of fertilisers. Melspring grew fast and rapidly gaining market share in Africa, Middle East and the Caribbean. In relation to that, exclusive contracts were closed with global key manufacturers like Nippon Soda and Nissan Chemicals.
In 2006 the company was acquired by the French company OLMIX. As a result the company shifted focus on product development, making sustainability of the total Pool Care product range it’s goal for the future.
This year Melspring has special activities planned for its 80th anniversary. We will keep you informed.
